So what's wrong with this guy?

Reports say the Jets are giving up a 2nd round pick (37th overall) and getting back Thomas Jones and a 2nd round pick (63rd overall) from the Bears. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, especially for the Jets.
Jones is fresh off a season with 1200+ rushing yards and good showings in the Super Bowl and NFC Championship Game. It's a good thing he has to pass a physical before the trade is complete, because something sure looks suspicous here. My guess is he just got Parkinson's Disease. Care to speculate?

I really can't figure out the angle the Bears are working on this trade. They move up 30 slots and give away a 1200 yard back? I understand they have Benson and used a 4th overall pick on him, but with Sexy "Fuck it I'm Going Deep" Rexy as the QB, I'm pretty sure the running game is going to be the focus of their offense again next season.

Mike Greenberg said it best this morning on Mike & Mike....."The Jets GM is going to show up at the press conference to introduce Jones with a Zorro mask on while carrying a pistol, because they just robbed the Bears."

Well I'm glad I'm not a Bears fan right now... The trend in the NFL was to go to shared running back responsibilities, and it proved to work with the final 4 teams all using that approach. Why go against that when Jones still has another year left on his contract and you're not getting much back? There's gotta be more to it than this.

I do not know, but could it be a salary move due to the cap?

Jones was signed to a 4 yr/$10 million contract in 2004, so he wasn't exactly making a ton of money. I really don't get the Bears at all. They have a sick defense, a good running game, but have arguably the worst quarterback in the game.

Why not cut Rex and make a run at Jeff Garcia, Brad Johnson, or try and put together a package to try and get somebody like Matt Schaub from Atlanta or Aaron Rogers from Green Bay? You would still have the running back by committee like James mentioned, and you would have an actual professional quarterback behind center.

They are also screwing up their negotiations with Lance Briggs....it is like they are hellbent on being a .500 team next year.

From SI.com:
The Bears are in great shape to keep the core of their NFC champion roster together. With a projected $26 million to spend under the $109 million cap, there shouldn't be the kind of financially motivated moves that many winning teams face each offseason.

They are just a cheap organization. There has been a lot of chatter around the NFL lately that the BEars are horrendous of an organization to play for, that the management treats the players like crap...I dont know if this is true or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. But this move I think was done because Jones wanted a contract extension with his 1 year left, and the Bears did not want to give the 29 yr old RB a new contract, especially wit hCedric Benson sitting behind him. I think the Jets fleeced them, by getting their second rounder(which is essentially considered a high third rounder in NFL circles)...
